Great post, thanks Todd for posting the link. I look forward to following your posts and getting to know who you are, not who others think you should be.

you know, i've been through all that too. it would be nice to make a little money blogging, if only to validate the time i steal to do it, but in the end, that's not what it's about for me--and apparently not for you, either.

can't wait to read what you're excited to write about!
  • tojosan · 7 months ago
Yeah. I'd love to too. I've made a few dollars blogging. Friends though, I've made more.

Lisa, thanks for stopping by. And yes, some money would be great, even if it was just beer money, however, I think, at least for me, I have to just worry about the content, and being myself, and just concentrate on that for now. My hope is, if I can do that long and well enough, opportunity will follow from there.

Powerful. This is what writing is all about. Greg, I love this piece. Your heart and your voice are brave and strong here. Nice work.

I deeply appreciate the praise. You've really made me sharpen my perspective and focus. Your questions challenge me to evaluate and take a stand. That's a wonderful by product of who you are and what you write.

Keep asking questions; keep discovering yourself. Rock on!

Todd, thanks for the kind words. I don't really know what to say other than thanks.

I hope we can continue to inspire each other.

I'm not really sure who you are, but I do like what you have said. In one sense, I'm glad that you have "saved yourself" from the clinches of the social media beast.

For about 3 years I listened - they kept saying not to give up, to pursue my passion and that one day it would all pay off. I believed them. I kept going, racking up one credit card balance after another (yes, I'm admitting to being stupid).

Hey, it was going to pay off, they'd be there when I was through, to help me get the word out about my "latest creation".

Well, I'm not seeing it, at all. There have been too many shiny objects show up between then and now, and it appears that I have just become yesterday's news.

So, my advice, if you take advice from strangers, is to just do what you want to do, know that nothing will probably come from it (at all) but if helps you to pass the time, and perhaps a few people stop by and read it, then why not.

    Welcome back.

It's good to not rate happiness based on expectations of getting rich from a blog. It's seldom the blog that brings in the money anyway. It's all about what you sell of yourself - skills, knowledge, wisdom, good looks?
  • Greg Bussmann · 7 months ago
Thanks for the support Michael. I hope you realize you are not stupid, it is an easy trap to fall into. Being yourself is the only way to go, and everything else feeds off of that.

Good luck to you, and don't be a stranger.

Glad I read this after Todd's link on Twitter.

I blog for business on a work blog, but my personal blog is just that, personal. There I rant about technology, my family and anything I think of to write about... And while I understand there are those who choose not to read it because there are pictures of my family, so be it.

I'm glad you've come to the realization of why you blog and even happier you articulated it so well to help us all remember why we started in the first place. Stay happy and I'm looking forward to reading as the changes come.
